The Postiz + Social Cue Playbook: Publish, Then Engage

A founder facing the camera holding a block of ice with frozen YouTube, Instagram, X and chat icons in one hand and a live flame in the other

I schedule everything through Postiz. Videos, threads, the occasional Reddit post - queued once a week, published on time, across every channel I care about. It's genuinely good, it's open source, and if you're reading this you probably run it too (self-hosted or cloud). Here's the uncomfortable part: for months my Postiz calendar was full and my reach was flat. I was posting into the void.

This is the playbook I settled on to fix that. Postiz stays exactly where it is, doing the publishing. Social Cue handles the other motion - showing up in conversations that already exist - without me opening Reddit "for five minutes" and surfacing forty minutes later with nothing to show for it. Two tools, two motions, one weekly loop.

Why a full Postiz calendar isn't enough on its own

Publishing is a solved problem. Postiz has 30-plus channels, a public API, an MCP server, and a self-hosted option that costs nothing but a Docker container. Consistency - the thing every social guide preaches - is a checkbox now.

But consistency only compounds when someone is already listening. A new account with 200 followers posting daily is still a new account with 200 followers. The feed algorithms on X and LinkedIn weight replies and comments heavily, Reddit doesn't care about your profile at all, and Hacker News has no follow graph whatsoever. On the platforms where indie founders actually get found, reach comes from being in other people's threads, not from your own posts.

Buffer's 2026 engagement study across 52 million posts lands on the same point from the data side: comments and conversations, not raw post volume, are what move distribution. Every growth thread in r/SaaS and r/startups says it in plainer words - "be useful in the comments for months before anyone clicks your link."

So the job isn't post more. The job is publish consistently AND show up where the conversation already is. Those are two different motions, and most founders only have tooling for the first one.

The two motions of brand growth

I think about it as a pair of gears:

  • Publish (Postiz). Your original content. Product updates, build-in-public threads, demos, opinions. Planned in a batch, scheduled, cross-posted with per-platform tweaks. This is your surface area - the thing people find when they click your profile after you said something useful.
  • Engage (Social Cue). Other people's content. The "what do you use for X?" post, the complaint about a competitor's pricing, the HN comment that's one fact away from being right. This is your discovery channel - the reason anyone clicks your profile in the first place.

Publish without engage and you're a billboard on an empty road. Engage without publish and people click through to a dead profile. You need both, and the second one is where the time goes.

The engage motion has a doomscrolling problem

Here's why most of us skip it. "Go find good conversations to join" sounds simple, and it is - for about ninety seconds. Then the feed does what the feed was built to do. You came in looking for a thread about self-hosted schedulers; you leave with three cat videos, a heated argument about tabs vs. spaces, and zero replies posted.

The browsing is the trap, not the replying. Writing a thoughtful comment takes four minutes. Finding the thread worth four minutes is what eats the afternoon, because the search tools inside these platforms are bad and the feeds are designed to keep you scrolling rather than searching.

That's the gap Social Cue fills. It's a Claude Code plugin (plus a small Chrome extension) that does the browsing for you - in your own logged-in browser, on the Claude subscription you already pay for. No extra AI bill, no platform API to lose. It searches Reddit, Hacker News and X for your brand's topics, scores every thread on product fit, conversation quality, whether helpful replies are welcome, and whether it's still alive, then drafts a reply and queues it for your review. You open a dashboard with a ranked list instead of opening the feed.

The loop

Two tools, three moves.

Publish

Write your original posts in one sitting and load them into Postiz - shorter for X, longer for LinkedIn, a real title and no hashtags for Reddit. Schedule them and leave the calendar alone. If you're on Social Cue Pro, original-post ideas that surface during discovery go straight into your Postiz account with your own API key.

Engage

Run /socialdiscovery. It drives your dedicated Chrome profile, scores what it finds, and opens the dashboard with a ranked queue: each thread gets a type, a one-line reason it's worth your time, and a drafted reply. Pick a few, rewrite the drafts in your own words, post from your own browser, skip the rest. You never opened the feed.

Most replies shouldn't mention your product. The scoring is tuned that way - "someone is asking for exactly this" ranks highest, "vaguely related, could plug it in" gets buried. The rules subreddits actually enforce are here.

Close the loop

The performance tracker shows which replies got upvotes, follow-ups and profile clicks - that's what your audience is confused about right now. Turn the best one into your next original post, and remix anything Postiz analytics says outperformed.

Why this pairing, specifically

You could stitch this together with a Reddit monitoring SaaS and a scheduler. I tried. The monitoring tools that lived on the Reddit API mostly didn't survive 2025, and the ones left charge a second subscription for alerts you still have to go browse.

Postiz and Social Cue fit together for a boring reason: they're both built for the same person. Someone who's comfortable running a Docker container or a CLI, who'd rather own their setup than rent it, and who wants an AI assistant on the tooling they already pay for instead of a new bill. Postiz is open source and self-hostable; Social Cue runs on your Claude subscription in your own browser, and the two connect with one API key.

Neither is "yet another point tool." Together they're a system: one gear publishes, the other gets you into the room where people are listening.

Start this week

If you already run Postiz, you're halfway there. Install Social Cue, run /socialcue-setup with your website URL, and let it draft your brand profile. Run one discovery pass tomorrow morning and post two replies from the queue. Discovery is free on every platform it supports; Pro adds the unified queue, assisted posting, and the Postiz hand-off.

If you don't run Postiz yet, grab it here - self-host it for free or take the cloud trial - and do the Monday batch first. Then come back for the other half. Consistency gets you a full calendar. Showing up gets you an audience.
