Meet Social Cue: Reddit Marketing Without the Doomscroll

A frustrated founder at a desk late at night, head in hand, lit by a laptop and desk lamp, with the words Distribution is Hard

I built Social Cue because I kept doing the same dumb thing. I'd open Reddit to check whether anyone was talking about the problem we solve, and forty minutes later I was upvoting cat pics with nothing to show for it. That's Reddit marketing for a lot of founders: good intentions, zero replies posted, an afternoon gone.

Social Cue is my fix. It's a Claude Code plugin (plus a small Chrome extension) that hunts Reddit, Hacker News and X for the conversations worth joining for your brand, scores them, drafts a reply, and drops it into a queue for you to approve. It runs on the Claude subscription you already pay for, in your own browser.

Posting is solved. Reach isn't.

If you're an indie founder, you already have tools to post. Schedulers, calendars, AI caption writers. Publishing is a solved problem.

Reach isn't. You can post every day and stay in the void. What moves the needle for small products is showing up in the threads where people are already asking for what you built: the "what do you use for X?" post, the complaint about a competitor's pricing, the Hacker News comment that's one fact away from being right. Social Cue only does that half, on purpose.

What Social Cue actually does

Three commands, in order.

  1. /socialcue:socialcue-setup — give it your website URL and it drafts your brand profile: name, tagline, the search tags people actually post about, voice notes. You correct it instead of typing it. Then it launches a dedicated Chrome profile (not your daily browser) and you sign into your platforms there once.
  2. /socialcue:socialdiscovery — Claude drives that browser the way you would: searches, opens threads, reads the room, moves on. Each conversation gets scored on product fit, conversation quality, whether helpful replies are welcome there, whether it's still alive, and whether a good reply would spark follow-up. Only threads averaging 6 out of 10 or better make the queue.
  3. /socialcue:load-dashboard — a local dashboard with one queue. Each opportunity comes with a type (someone asking for recommendations, a category discussion worth a perspective, an original-post idea), a one-line "why this is worth your time," and a drafted reply.

The queue lives in a local SQLite file inside your project. There's no cloud account and no telemetry; nothing comes to us. Page content goes to Anthropic under your existing Claude subscription, the same place it goes for any Claude Code session.

The part I never said out loud: browsing is the trap

"Just go engage on Reddit" advice skips the hard part. Engaging is cheap; finding is what eats your day. To find the three threads that matter you wade through three hundred that don't, and the platforms are engineered to keep you wading.

Gloria Mark's work at UC Irvine found it takes about 23 minutes to fully get back to a complex task after an interruption. A founder doing "market research" in a Reddit tab isn't researching. They're getting interrupted on a loop.

So the thing I care most about in Social Cue is the time it saves. The agent browses first; you only see the shortlist. Kick off a run, go back to real work, and come back to a ranked list of maybe eight conversations, each with the reason it made the cut and a reply already drafted. Fifteen minutes reviewing instead of an hour drifting, and the feed never gets its shot at you.

Replies that don't sound like a bot (eventually)

Honest note: the first drafts will sound like an AI wrote them, because one did. What makes them usable is the feedback loop. Leave a note on any draft ("too salesy," "shorter," "you'd never say this") and Social Cue rewrites the pending queue and remembers the rule for next time. Mark a rewrite you like as a golden example and later drafts lean on it. It gets closer to your voice over a few runs; it doesn't start there.

Nothing is posted without your approval.

Free to try

You need Claude Code, Node 18+, and Google Chrome. In Claude Code:

/plugin marketplace add mrieck/claude-plugins
/plugin install socialcue@productive-mark
/socialcue:socialcue-setup https://yoursite.com

Then run /socialcue:socialdiscovery, go do something useful for twenty minutes, and come back to the shortlist. The docs cover the details, and the Chrome extension is on the Web Store if you want it collecting while you browse normally.

If you try it, I'd like to know which threads it surfaced that you'd have missed, and which drafts it got wrong. Both lists are useful.
